Jas A Ogilvy Inc
Founded: 1866, James A Ogilvy, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Ogilvy Dry Goods. Store moved to its present day location in 1912 and changed into a full scale department store by 1920. Sadly James died in 1911 so he never saw the new store. I’m 1927 Arthur Nesbitt and his firm bought the store by acquiring all of its common stock. J. A. Nesbitt, Arthur Nesbitts 19 year old son, was supposed to quickly resell the store for a profit; however, he instead fell in Love with it and ended up managing Ogilvy’s for the next 54 years and was responsible for the Christmas window displays. He retired in 1981 and Ogilvy’s was sold to a Montreal development group in 1986 then in 1994, 2000 & 2010. In 2010 it was once again sold to the Selfridges Group, owners of Holt Renfrew. They rebranded the store as Holt Renfrew Ogilvy. In 2017 3 years of renovations began. Finished in 2020 it is still in operation.
